About me

Karina is a dedicated registered psychologist with a passion for helping young children, teens, adolescents and adults using an empathic, non-judgmental client centered approach to engage and bond in a safe and reliable therapeutic space. In her work with young people, Karina strives to working collaboratively with families, building on strengths and resilience as well as improving communication between children and their parents. Karina also likes to connect with schools and advocate for her client’s emotional needs.

In the work with adults, the same principles of empathy and collaboration apply.  Even though Karina is not a family therapist, she is open to offering a therapeutic space to promote reconnection and repair. 

Karina has trained in evidence-based practices such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as well as complementing her work with child centre practices and Mindfulness. She is a trauma informed professional with a special interest in attachment-focused therapies and Neuroscience. She has completed a variety of parent-focused techniques training, including emotion coaching through Tuning into Kids and attachment styles through the Circle of Security. She has also trained in the Seasons for Growth evidence-based change, loss and grief education program and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Program.

 Karina is culturally competent, having worked with various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds including Spanish speaking families.

 Karina has completed a bachelor's in psychology, followed by a Master in Family Studies with a specialization in Family Intensive Practice at the University of Newcastle.
